Demystifying CBD

This month we will be celebrating our sixth month of offering Cordial Organics at Supple. We have had such a great response + so much positive feedback, we decided to create a little March Madness of our own. For the month of March we will be offering two special treatment protocols using Cordial Organics to balance your mind + body; a CBD Facial + a CBD Massage.

But before we entice you to indulge in some self care, we wanted to share what we have learned about CBD + specifically about Cordial Organics. We asked our resident researcher, Sarah Dudas, to take a closer look + here’s what she found out:

“It seems like everywhere you look, there are beauty brands touting their newest CBD related product, complete with cute + alluring packaging boasting all the benefits of CBD. But there is much more to CBD that just the trend!

CBD oil, otherwise known as cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive cannabis constituent extracted from the flowers of cannabis. It is known for its numerous medicinal benefits for many conditions including treating anxiety, chronic pain + inflammation. More recently, people have been discovering the amazing benefits of CBD for skincare concerns such as acne, eczema + psoriasis. With an oil that is three times as rich in antioxidants as vitamin C, it’s no surprise that people can’t get enough of the power of CBD.

As with anything in skincare, it is important for people to do research to ensure they are getting high quality products to fully experience the benefits CBD has to offer. This is especially vital because many brands are taking advantage of the trendiness of cannabis related products, creating products that lead people to believe they contain CBD, when they really don’t. The CBD industry is calling out many beauty brands that are selling products that lead people to believe that they contain CBD, when the really don’t.

Hemp seed oil is a much cheaper ingredient, but does not promote any type of medicinal healing. While hemp seed oil can certainly be moisturizing, it is really just the same as any other cold pressed organic oil. It does not contain any of the cannabinoids, terpenes + phenols found in the concentrate, which are the properties that promote blemish healing, decreased inflammation + soothe dryness.

A 2017 study by the National Cancer Institute stated that “CBD works to activate specific receptors in the body to produce a pharmacologic response, particularly in the central nervous system + the immune system.” With this response, we often see a very balancing + calming result in the mind + body, including the skin. We have seen incredible transformations with CBD, whether it is is immediately decreasing persistent pain of clearing up stubborn acne. It is easy to be fooled by misleading packaging, but you will be thankful when you invest in a reputable high quality CBD product.

Now that you know a little bit about the wonders of CBD, how do you best choose a product that fits your needs? To obtain the best results, experts recommend products with at least 100 mg of CBD per ounce of topical CBD formula. For pain relief, there should be at least 300 mg per ounce of product. It’s also important to note that the number of milligrams isn’t the only thing to bellowing for on the package. Make sure your CBD product contains a good carrier oil, like MCT oil, which boosts the bioavailability of CBD.
